The subtropical island of Sao Miguel is in the mountainous Azores, Ponta Delgada was founded in the 15th Century by Portuguese and Flemish sailors. The island is home to some spectacular scenery including volcanic lakes, emerald forests and rocky headlands. Drive out to nearby villages or stay to explore Ponta Delgada with its black-and-white tiles, whitewashed buildings and excellent seafood restaurants and bars.
Day 6: Praia da Vitoria
One of the most modern towns in the Azores with pristine beaches and a coastline full of coves and coral reefs. The city has first class shopping and a thriving music scene. Explore the historic old quarter of the city and particularly the impressive Igreja Matriz de Santa Cruz with its two imposing bell towers and founded in the 15th century but only consecrated in 1516.

Madeira lies within an Atlantic archipelago to the west of Morocco. The Gulf Stream gives the island its warm year-round weather and flowers that bloom in riotous colour along its mountainous terrain. Madeira offers mountain walks with breathtaking views, trails on horseback, bird watching, big game fishing, boat trips, surfing, canyoning, scuba diving and whale and dolphin watching. Visit Monte Palace Tropical Garden, or Santa Clara Monastery, or just relax and enjoy the islands fabulous nature.

Positioned on a narrow spit of land jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, Cadiz has been the home of the Spanish navy since the 18th century. Founded 3000 years ago by the Phoenicians, Cadiz is the oldest city in Western Europe. The beautiful Gothic Cathedral of La Giralda can be found in the Jewish quarter of Santa Cruz which is renowned for its array of whitewashed house and scented Bougainvillea which seems to grow everywhere. In the new town can be found the ultra-modern “City of Arts and Sciences” which is certainly worth a visit.

Gateway to Andalusian and the famed Costa del Sol resorts the Spanish port of Malaga stands out as a bustling destination with its own unique character. Rising high above the city with spectacular views, are the ruins of the 14th century Moorish castle, and of course its most famous son Pablo Picasso is recognized with a history of the artist’s life at the city’s fascinating Picasso Foundation.
