Day 1: Civitavecchia (Rome)
Embark your ship – Jewel of the Seas®
Civitavecchia (Rome) is often described as the Eternal City and is filled with breath taking treasurers of almost every description – The Vatican’s Sistine Chapel, St Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum, and the Trevi Fountain where a tossed coin promises your return to this city of Romance. Take a walk along the famous (and expensive) Via Veneto which came to fame in the 1960’ as the centre of la dolce vita (the sweet life) attracting jet setters from around the world.
Day 2: At Sea
Day 3: Mykonos
Mykonos is a picture-perfect Greek island town filled with whitewashed steps and cube houses with blue doors. Narrow marble clad streets, mazes of quirky shops famed for their gold jewellery, easily accessible trips to admire the historic white windmills on the hillside. This is an ideal port to tour on foot.
Day 4: Mykonos
Day 5: Athens
Athens is one of the world’s centres of archaeological research, and home to famous historical sites such as the Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus, as well as the National Archaeological Museum. It also has a thriving nightlife as well as lively markets, luxurious Hammam baths, and stunning views of the city from the peak of Mount Lycabettus.
Day 6: Katakolon
Katakolon is the gateway to Olympus and the site of the original Olympic Stadium. Walk on the original stadium track over 2000 years old or visit one of the extensive ruins that transcend time and help you envision what once was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the Temple of Zeus. Other highlights include the Olympia Archaeological Museum where you will find the Head of Hera, the superb statue of Hermes of Praxiteles, the sculpted ornaments of the Temple of Zeus, and many other priceless works from ancient times.
